Is your Third Eye Chakra in balance?

Located in between our eyebrows where our eyes would meet, this energy point is the centre of our imagination and intuition. In Sanskrit, Ajna means “command”. Our Ajna allows us to access our inner guidance that comes from the depths of within. Said to be related to the ‘supreme element" which is a combination of all elements in their purest form.


Overactive Ajna:

If our third eye chakra is overactive we may find ourselves out of touch with reality, over indulging in fantasy worlds and finding it difficult to distinguish what is real. When our third eye is overactive, our constant thoughts can be mentally exhausting, lacking in focus our judgement can be clouded which affects our ability to make decisions, easily becoming overwhelmed.


Under active Ajna:

An under active third eye chakra can affect our imagination and ability to remember, process and concentrate on information, making it difficult to recall our dreams. We may feel fearful of the unknown and insensitive to others around us which can lead to narrow minded thinking.


Balanced Ajna:

When the third eye chakra is balanced we realise that we are the true creator of our own reality. Our intuition comes naturally, our memory is sharp and our mind is open, flowing in full sync with our lower chakras. With our Ajna chakra in balance we can think and see clearly allowing us to make true decisions and manifest our innermost desires.

Here are some things to try which will help balance your third eye chakra:

  • Colour - Purple

  • Element -  All elements

  • Meditation - Sit comfortably, perhaps in a favourite place or outside in the sunshine, feel the sun shine down in between your eyes and envision what makes you happy, how you’d like to build a future for yourself, truly manifesting positive thoughts for every facet of your life.   • Yoga - Specific yoga poses to help open and align the third eye:

Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog)

Salamba Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand)

Balasana (Child’s Pose)

Ardha Uttanasana (Standing Half Forward Bend)

Virasana (Hero) - also perfect for meditation

  • Music - Music brings people together, it can also help us bring ourselves back to balance. Drumming, singing and dancing, repeating mantras and chanting the corresponding sound to each chakra (in this case AUM) creates vibrations in our bodies, these vibrations help our cells work together in harmony.

  • Essential Oils -

angelic root, sage, cypress, marjoram, patchouli

  • Crystals - Using healing crystals and colours can also help us recharge:

blue aragonite, blue tourmaline, purple fluorite, lapis lazuli, amethyst, aquamarine, clear quartz, iolite, azurite, angelite, sodalite, aqua aura crystal, blue aventurine.
