Throat Chakra :: Vishuddha

Is your Throat Chakra in balance?

Located in the centre of our neck aline with our throat, this energy point is the centre of our self expression, communication and creativity. Some believe this energy point is the home of human emotion. In Sanskrit, Vishudda means “pure or purification”.

Overactive Vishudda:

If our throat chakra is overactive we may find ourselves being critical towards those around us, often speaking negatively and domineeringly, speaking over others without hearing their voice. An overactive throat chakra can destroy the harmony between our own emotions, making it difficult to listen or understand others which can result in over compensating with arrogance and condescension.

Under active Vishudda:

An under active throat chakra may leave us feeling afraid of openly expressing our views and opinions. We may feel shy and timid, struggling to articulate our words and finding it difficult to stand up for ourselves. By not being true to ourselves, we may give out mixed emotions which can cause problems and confusion.

Balanced Vishudda:

When the throat chakra is balanced we flow with our true nature. We have the courage to openly express ourselves, encouraging us to project our creativity into the world. We flourish, letting our energy pass freely to our lower body and head. Offering help and advice to others comes easily to us, we know our direction and have no problem expressing our weaknesses. We speak the truth, we are free.

Feeling Unbalanced?

Here are some things to try which will help balance your throat chakra:

  • Colour - Blue

  • Element -  Akasha/ Sky

  • Meditation - Simply being anywhere in nature, the air around us, sitting outside under a blue sky or by the sea will help heal align our throat chakra. Alternatively… Lighting some blue candles, burning essential oils and sitting comfortably, imagining ourselves surrounded by blue light can also help us reconnect with our Vishudda. Feel free to listen to this 15 minute mediation music to help open up your Throat Chakra: Throat Chakra Activation and Balancing Music

  • Yoga - Specific yoga poses to help open and align the throat:

Bhujangasana (Baby Cobra Pose)

Matsyasana (Fish Pose)

Salamba Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand)

Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (Bridge Pose)

Balasana (Child’s Pose)

  • Music - Music brings people together, it can also help us bring ourselves back to balance. Drumming, singing and dancing, repeating mantras and chanting the corresponding sound to each chakra (in this case HAM) creates vibrations in our bodies, these vibrations help our cells work together in harmony.

  • Creativity - Painting, drawing, crafts, getting creative can really help strengthen our throat chakra.

  • Essential Oils -

Ylang-ylang, Frankincense, Rose, Sandalwood, Jasmine & Neroli.

  • Crystals - Using healing crystals and colours can also help us recharge:

Jade, Amazonite, Turquoise, Lapis Lazuli, Aqua Aura, Blue Tourmaline, Blue Lace Agate, Tanzanite, Blue Argonite, Chrysocolla.

If you feel your throat chakra is unbalanced and would like us to create a specific piece of jewellery using these stones we would be more than happy to make something specially for you to match your intentions!
